tip up

1. To lift up at an angle. The tail of the boat tipped up as everyone crowded to the front.
2. To lift someone or something up at an angle. In this usage, a noun or pronoun can be used between "tip" and "up." The doctor tipped his patient up to give her a spoonful of medicine. The carpenter tipped up the wooden frame of the new wall to secure it in the correct position.
3. To tilt something, especially a bottle or other kind of container, at a forward angle. In this usage, a noun or pronoun can be used between "tip" and "up." I motioned for the bartender to keep tipping up the bottle of bourbon until my glass was completely full. I tipped the bucket up and poured the dirty water out into the gutter.
