slang Someone who sells tips regarding the outcome of sporting events, especially horse races, or the fluctuations of the stock markets. He was one of the top tipsters on Wall Street, and because he made his money based on telling other people to sell, he actually made more money when the stock market collapsed. A: "Why would you pay someone for a tip about who will win the race? They have no way of knowing that!" B: "No, you see, this is a tipster who actually works with one of the jockeys, so he's got inside information!"
