A period of time that is not already designated for some activity or use; free time. I have some time on my hands this weekend, so I can finally take a look at your car.

COMMON If you have time on your hands, you have a lot of free time and you do not know what to do with it. Jimmy had too much time on his hands and that caused him to get into trouble. With more time on their hands, many people would like to become mature students.
