To make or begin a sudden change in direction, course, or progress. My life really took a new turn when I was offered a job in India. I don't want the project taking any new turns. It's been delayed too many times as it is!

[for something] to begin a new course or direction. When I received the telegram with the exciting news, my life took anew turn. I began taking the medicine at noon, and by evening the disease had begun to take a new turn. I was getting better!
