A phrase that encourages acceptance of disappointments and mishaps as just a normal part of life. A: "I set three alarms, Mom. I really didn't mean to oversleep." B: "I know, honey. That's the way life is." Yeah, I'm sad that I didn't get the lead in the play, but hey, that's the way life is.
