1. Literally, the state of being alive. Her final performance in the land of the living will go down in history as one of her very finest. She tried to resuscitate the man, but he was no longer in the land of the living.
2. By extension, the state of being conscious and alert or in full health. Used humorously. After spending two days in bed with the flu, it's nice to be back in the land of the living. Hey, glad you finally decided to wake up and join us in the land of the living.
