this is where we came in

this is where we came in

dated Said of something that is repeating itself or has returned again to the very beginning. A reference to the early days of cinema-going, when films were screened multiple times in a row and many people walked into a theater during the middle of a film. They would then continue watching until it started again from the beginning and returned to the point at which they entered. Now the war effort in the area has begun anew, with the military leaders repeating the very same rhetoric as 20 years ago. This is where we came in, as they used to say.
