tant pis

Too bad; oh well. From French meaning "so much the worse," usually used in English to indicate resigned acceptance of some situation that is undesirable but unchangeable. Pronounced /t?~ pi/. We are certainly hoping we win the award, but we're proud of our work either way. If we come away empty-handed, well, then tant pis. I was really looking forward to using the hotel's famous spa, but it was closed for renovations during our stay. Tant pis.
