To reveal or uncover something that had been hidden or kept secret. We better take the wraps off this campaign before it gets leaked to the press. I can't wait to see the new model, but they haven't taken the wraps off yet.

take the wraps off something

If someone takes the wraps off something such as a plan or a new product, they tell people about it for the first time. Yesterday, the minister took the wraps off ambitious plans to create Ireland's first purpose-built national soccer stadium. The company also took the wraps off their new game machine. Note: You can also say that the wraps come off something with the same meaning. This Saturday, the wraps will come off the competition's official shortlist.
