take the body

take the body

To deal or attempt to deal out a physical blow, as in a tackle or body slam, in a full-contact sport, especially ice hockey. With the defensive players expecting him to take the body, Emerson managed to fake them out and slip the puck past the goalie. They may have better technical skill, but if we can keep taking the body, we'll wear them down.
