take (something) in the wrong way

take (something) in the wrong way

To misunderstand or misinterpret something, especially in such a way as to take offense at what is said or done. (A less common variant of "take something the wrong way.") Now, I hope you don't take this in the wrong way, but I think it would be easier for everyone if you didn't visit us right after the baby is born. I simply don't comment on things on the Internet anymore because, too often, what I say is taken in the wrong way.
