1. To remain awake beyond one's normal bedtime. I need to stop staying up so late—I can barely function at work! You go on to bed, I'm going to stay up for a little while and read.
2. To remain in public view. I hope those campaign posters don't stay up much longer, I'm so sick of looking at them. The decorations stay up on our neighbors' house months after the holidays are over.
