Standing Rock

The year-long project on Pine Ridge began after producer Phillip O'Leary took part in the 2016 protests at Standing Rock over the proposed Dakota Access Pipeline over concerns the local drinking water would be polluted.

RMT general secretary Mick Cash said: "RMT members are standing rock solid again today for the 47th day in support of a safe and accessible railway for all in the long-running fight to put public safety before private profit.

There is much to learn here, including the government's misguided attempts to solve the "Indian problem," the positive and negative aspects of the American Indian movement and the protest at the Standing Rock Reservation against the construction of the Dakota Access pipeline.

Contributors to the anthology, who are are forgoing payment, include Louise Erdrich writing about Standing Rock, Lauren Groff on Roe v Wade, Marlon James on Lawrence v Texas, Viet Thanh Nguyen on Stromberg v California, Ann Patchett on Edwards v California, Salman Rushdie on United States v New York Times, Jesmyn Ward on Chicago v Morales, Colson Whitehead on Captiol Square Review Board v Pinette, Meg Wolitzer on Griswold v Connecticut, and Hanya Yanagihara on Korematsu v United States.

She was raised in Sioux traditions and is a member of the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe of North and South Dakota.

Most of these arrests at protests occurred in one of three places; the Inauguration Day protests, the Standing Rock Indian Reservation, and civil rights protests in Missouri.
