Used as a humorous way of expressing farewell, used especially when a business closes, someone leaves a position, something is retired from the market, etc. The phrase comes from the title of the 1984 novel by Douglas Adams, the fourth book in The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy series. Today, the long-running restaurant is closing its doors for good after years of poor business. This morning, the owner put a poster in the window reading, "So long, and thanks for all the fish!" "So long, and thanks for all the fish!" read the first line of the former CEO's letter of resignation. Boogle Inc. just announced that it's previous smartphone, the Bixel A35, will soon be saying, "So long, and thanks for all the fish."
