run ahead
To work, proceed, or progress beyond or in excess of some limit. Often followed by "of." Despite foreign exports dipping recently, domestic consumption has been running ahead year on year. The product ran ahead of budget during development, but it made that money back within its first month on the market. The young mayor is running ahead in the congressional election.
