rug up
1. To put a rug (a kind of special coat, also called a "horse blanket") over a horse. A noun or pronoun can be used between "rug" and "up." I rugged the poor old mare up and gave her a bucket of oats to eat. Make sure you rug up the horses before you put them in the stable for the night.
2. To wrap someone up in warm blankets or clothes. A noun or pronoun can be used between "rug" and "up." The kids came in out of the rain soaking wet and freezing cold, so I dried them off, rugged them up, and sat them in front of the fire with mugs of hot cocoa.
