rub along
rub along
1. To interact or associate (with someone) in a mutually friendly or amiable way. I'm thrilled you and Martha rubbed along so well last night. I knew you two would hit it off! The two countries had been rubbing along well over the years, but a recent political incident threatened to undo all that good will.
2. To endure, persevere, or progress at an adequate or tolerable level, especially in spite of difficulties. We've managed to rub along reasonably well, despite the economy. A: "How are you, Aunt Mabel?" B: "Oh, I'm still rubbing along. Can't complain, I suppose."
