Children often receive sums of money when making their First Communion, a ceremony in certain Christian traditions celebrating the first time a child receives the Eucharist from a priest. Primarily heard in Ireland.
1. Used to imply that one is extremely stingy or parsimonious. Primarily heard in Ireland. Look at those shabby clothes he's wearing. He never buys anything unless it is absolutely necessary. I bet you he still has his communion money!
2. Used to imply that one is shrewdly frugal or fiscally responsible. I've always been savvy with money. I love to haggle and get the best deals possible. Why, I still have my communion money in an account at the post office.
