1. informal The punishment, defeat, severe or unpleasant treatment, etc., that one must face. I know that I have to take my lumps as an intern to earn the other employees' trust and move up the corporate ladder.
2. informal A punishment that is particularly appropriate for or deserved by one. Don't worry, that lying weasel will get her lumps once the boss realizes what she's done.
