If something does not amount to a hill of beans or is not worth a hill of beans, it has no value, importance or use. In this world the problems of people like us don't amount to a hill of beans. To the sceptics, political polls aren't worth a hill of beans. Note: You can also say that something does not amount to a row of beans or is not worth a row of beans. If you're not interested in a subject, training isn't worth a row of beans. Note: Beans are sometimes planted in groups in a little mound of earth, although they are usually grown in rows.
