mud out
1. To clear mud and debris out of or away from something. A noun or pronoun can be used between "mud" and "out." Volunteers have been mudding houses out continually for the last week following the hurricane.
2. To become impassable or unusable due to an excessive amount of mud. Often used in passive constructions. The entire road had been mudded out due to the heavy rains. I hope our crops don't get mudded out in the storm.
3. To become unable to do or continue some task or activity due to an excessive amount of mud. Often used in passive constructions. We were supposed to have our qualifying match last Saturday, but we were mudded out. The construction crew has been mudded out for the last month because of to the terrible weather.
4. To apply joint compound, colloquially referred to as drywall mud, to the joints and corners of drywall installations. A noun or pronoun can be used between "mud" and "out." For me, mudding out is the most tedious part of hanging drywall. You've got to be sure to mud the walls out before you start painting.
