look about for (someone or something)

To examine or investigate (some place or area) in order to locate someone or something. A noun or pronoun can be used between "about" and "for" to specify the location. I looked about the entire building for the manager, but she was nowhere to be found. I kept looking about for somewhere to plug my laptop in, but there were no outlets anywhere in the classroom.
