live (life) on the edge

live (life) on the edge

To have a lifestyle in which one tends to engage in dangerous or risky behavior. Often used sarcastically to indicate the opposite. I liked to live on the edge while I was in college, but now that I'm a bit older, I tend to be a bit more conservative in the things I do for fun. My sister ended up in jail on more than one occasion back when she lived life on the edge. You washed a mixed load of lights and darks? Wow, you're really living on the edge!
