1. rude slang A humiliating disappointment or setback. Losing my job after my car broke down was a real kick in the ass.
2. rude slang A rebuke that is intended to or serves to motivate one to improve. The real kick in the ass was when my mother told me she was disappointed in me—that's when I knew I needed to change. Coach chewing us out was the kick in the ass that we needed to come together as a team.
