To stop using something that one is addicted to, especially heroin, completely and very suddenly. A noun or pronoun can be used between "kick" and "cold" to specify what is being given up. It was only through the help of my parents that I was able to kick cold turkey. I'd probably still be hooked on H if it weren't for them. Nicotine patches and gum work for some people, but I had to kick cigarettes cold.
