inch up

1. To slowly approach or move along something. The line for the newest smartphone was so long that it took hours for us to inch up to the counter. The cat inched up the steps in pursuit of the bird.
2. To cause someone or something to slowly approach or move along something. In this usage, a noun or pronoun can be used between "inch" and "up." The kids looked terrified as I inched them up to meet the Easter Bunny.

1. To ascend or advance along something by small degrees or steps: The worm slowly inched up the side of the tree. That book is inching up the bestseller list.
2. To cause someone or something to ascend, progress, or approach by small degrees or steps: I inched up the chair to the table. The soldiers inched the flag up the pole.
