A situation that will never come to pass. (Used to show skepticism or cynicism over someone's hypothetical remark.) Sometimes used in the full phrase "if pigs had wings, they would/could fly." Bob: "If we could just get Democrats and Republicans to agree on a tax reform bill, we could bring the deficit down in no time." Dave: "Sure, if pigs had wings!"
