Rather than any sense of satisfaction or contentment, he accumulation of wealth and possessions only fuels a desire for further accumulation. He spent his whole life working harder and harder, saying he wanted to earn just a bit more for the sake of his family. Well, the more you get, the more you want, and you can't take any of it with you when you die. I was never into technology or material possessions before, but once I bought a new phone and laptop, it made me start really pining for all the latest cutting-edge gadgets. The more you get, the more you want, I suppose.
