Jaws of Life

Jaws of Life

1. A hydraulic rescue tool that is used by emergency workers to free people who have become trapped, as in a wrecked vehicle or under fallen debris. The car flipped over three times—they had to use the Jaws of Life to get me out. It's a miracle I'm alive. The first responders came back with the Jaws of Life and set to work freeing the man from under the steel beam.
2. slang By extension, used humorously or hyperbolically in everyday situations when someone or something needs to be pried out of something else. I'm going to need the Jaws of Life to get me out of this shapewear at the end of the night! I can hardly breathe. Gosh, this part is totally wedged in here. I'll need the Jaws of Life to get it out!
