Having an understanding of or direct involvement in a joke. No, I'm not mad—I was in on the joke the whole time. I know they really didn't steal my cat. I love shows that break the fourth wall—it makes me feel like I'm in on the joke. Oh, they're all giggling over something stupid, but don't ask me what it's about—I'm not in on the joke.
