To have an advantage over someone or something. I hope I have the inside track on the competition, thanks to my extensive student teaching experience.

COMMON If someone has the inside track or has an inside track, they have an advantage such as special knowledge about something because of their position in an organization or their relationship with someone in an organization. As an agent, you may have the inside track when good deals become available. Companies that cause pollution are now under pressure, even if they have an inside track of access to sympathetic officials and ministers. Note: On a racing track, the inside track is the shortest, and so the competitors want to use it in order to take advantage of this fact.
