deplorable

deplorable

1. A derogatory term for a supporter of Donald Trump who is considered racist, sexist, homophobic, xenophobic, etc. The term derives from a campaign speech given by Hillary Clinton, Trump's opponent in the 2016 US presidential election, in which she said half of his supporters could be put in a category she called "the basket of deplorables." These deplorables are ruining this country for everyone—including themselves.
2. An ironic self-identification adopted by some supporters of Donald Trump after Hillary Clinton, his opponent in the 2016 US presidential election, said in a campaign speech that half of his supporters could be put in a category she called "the basket of deplorables." We are proud deplorables who voted for President Trump, thank you very much.
