get in harm's way

get in harm's way

To cause oneself to be in a place, condition, or situation that might result in one's harm or peril. Stand back—if you go any closer to the burning building, you'll get in harm's way! Geez, the kids won't get in harm's way in their own back yard—stop being so overprotective.
