gumby
gumby
1. slang A tall, angled haircut visually similar to the head of the Claymation character Gumby. Particularly popular among young African-American men in the hip hop community in the 1980s and '90s. Did you know that your uncle had the gumby back in the '80s?
2. slang A very inexperienced and clumsy rock climber. Oh man, I bet those gumbies end up hurting themselves before the day is over.
3. slang One who is flexible. Danielle is basically Gumby, so I bet she can do that yoga pose. Above all else, a good leader needs to be like Gumby—able to change their plan on a moment's notice if a problem arises.
gumbyhead
slang Someone whose actions are typically silly or stupid. Geez, he keeps pulling on a door that's clearly marked "push"—what a gumbyhead.
Semper Gumby
slang A humorous, unofficial motto used by United States Marines, taken to mean "Always Flexible." A play on the animated clay character "Gumby," known for his bendability, and the actual Marine Corps slogan, Semper Fidelis ("Always Faithful"). You've got to learn how to adapt when you're in the Corps, no matter what the situation throws at you. Semper Gumby, right?
