An impossible event used as an analogy for something the speaker thinks will never happen. Often used in the phrase "it will be a cold day in Hell before (something happens)." It will be a cold day in Hell when I let you borrow my car! Shelly wants a later curfew? Well, it will be a cold day in Hell before that happens!
