2. To end a relationship with a romantic partner; to break up with one. No, Susan is single again—she gave Kelly the shove.
3. To provide one with the necessary motivation, encouragement, or incentive (to do something). I'm hoping this positive feedback will give Jim the shove he needs to finally finish writing his novel. The thought of having her own office gave Sarah the shove to apply for the promotion.
