An especially comfortable, pleasurable, luxurious, and/or wealthy lifestyle. Sitting in the sun, having a few drinks, eating great food, with no worldly stresses… this is the good life, eh? We've been living the good life since my wife's wealthy uncle left us his entire fortune.

The "bad spirit" suggests rationalizations that justify what I'm doing, such as, "Others are doing the same thing." If I am trying to lead a good life, the Spirit of God encourages me, giving me greater trust, hope, and life, while the "bad spirit" introduces self-doubts, hesitations, and even scruples.
And yet isn't this the good that underlies so much of the Aussie good life, the American dream, the British Empire or, for that matter, Western civilization?
