get the once-over

To receive a quick, cursory amount of attention from someone, as while they are in the act of inspecting, reviewing, or cleaning. I feel more confident in my paper now that it's gotten the once-over from my sister. I always seem to miss stupid typos when I'm the only one who looks at it. Hey, the house needs to get a quick once-over before Mary gets here. You don't need to clean every corner of it, just a quick tidying up will do. Make sure your bunks and uniforms are in order—we'll be getting the once-over from the sergeant soon.
