1. To move a portion of something to a lower position by folding. A noun or pronoun can be used between "fold" and "down." He straightened the bedclothes and folded down the comforter. Please do not fold your tray tables down until we have completed our landing.
2. To collapse or bend over. A noun or pronoun can be used between "fold" and "down." I began folding down due to the intense pain in my abdomen. She folded down to protect the small child from the intense winds.

4. To compress or collapse an audio source to a lower-channel output, such as stereo to monaural or surround sound to stereo. A noun or pronoun can be used between "fold" and "down." Most TV shows and films are broadcast in 5.1 surround sound, even though the sound has to be folded down to stereo on most people's TVs. It sounds so bizarre because you're folding down a stereo mix to mono, so it is naturally going to be balanced incorrectly.
