FOD
An initialism of "foreign object damage," referring to any external or internal object that is not part of an aircraft's construction that can cause potential damage to the craft. With the speeds these jets can fly, FOD from hail can be as dangerous as bullets. The investigation ruled that the mechanical failure was due to FOD from a wrench left unstowed in the cockpit.
