be out of this world

be out of this world

1. To be extraordinary. This phrase is most often applied to enjoyable things (especially food), but it can describe unpleasant ones as well. If you're having dinner at Janine's, then you're in for a real treat—her cooking is out of this world! That car service's exorbitant rates are out of this world. Can't we just take a taxi?
2. To be intoxicated. Do you remember last night at the bar at all? You were really out of this world! I'm not sure what I took, but I was definitely out of this world at the concert.
