1. To be for sale or available for purchase. I heard that John lost his job and that's why their house is on the market. Why are there so many kinds of pasta sauce on the market? I just want to make spaghetti!
2. slang To be single; available for a sexual or romantic relationship. Dave only just broke up with Lisa, and all the girls are talking about how he's on the market now.
