AMERICAN, INFORMALIf something is going gangbusters, it is having a very successful period. Although the company's cable operations are going gangbusters, its finances are still shaky. Their economy has been going gangbusters, with gross domestic product growth of 8 per cent or so most years. Note: You can also say that someone or something does something like gangbusters, meaning very successfully. He has recently published a book of poems, which is selling like gangbusters. Note: A gangbuster is someone, especially a police officer, whose job is to break up criminal gangs.
