If you can carry a tune, you can sing a song with the right notes. All five can carry a tune, unusual in such an band. Note: In American English, people sometimes say that someone can't carry a tune in a bucket, meaning that they do not sing the right notes. The fact that he can't carry a tune in a bucket doesn't help much.
