fire over (something)

To discharge something, usually a weapon, and send that which is fired over something else. I hit a bull's-eye last time and then totally fired over the target, sheesh.

to shoot over something with a weapon, usually people's heads. We fired over their heads to warn them to stay away. Wally fired over the target.
