A sudden feeling of excitement or anger that causes one to act in unexpected ways. It must have been a sudden rush of blood to the head that made Gary lash out at Ron, because he's usually so calm.

If you have a rush of blood or a rush of blood to the head, you suddenly do something foolish or dangerous which you would not normally do. It was a rush of blood by the United goalkeeper that was to cost them the game. I don't know what made me say it — I must have had a sudden rush of blood to the head.
