Stable, sturdy, and reliable. A: "I wouldn't stand on that old table if I were you." B: "Nonsense, this thing is solid oak—it's as sound as a dollar!" They're trying to convince me that this investment is as sound as a dollar, but I have my doubts.

Very safe. There was a time when the American dollar was the cornerstone of the world's economy, a dependable currency to be admired and aspired to by other nations. That was then, but global economic circumstances have changed. 'Nuff said.
