词组 Stress in idioms
释义
Stress in idioms习语中的重音Idioms are shown with stress marks. For example, the idiom a ˌleading ˈquestion has two stress marks; a primary, or strong, stress mark on the word ˈquestion and a secondary, or weaker, stress mark on ˌleading. Idioms are usually shown with at least one primary stress mark. You should not change the position of this stress when speaking or the special meaning of the idiom may be lost.习语都标有重音符号。例如,习语 a ˌleading ˈquestion 有两个重音符:标在 question 上的是主重音,标在 leading 上的是次重音。每个习语通常会标注至少一个主重音符。说话时不应改变重音的位置,否则可能会丧失习语的特殊意义。If more than one stress pattern is possible, or if the stress depends on the context, then no stress mark is given. For example be light on sth has no stress mark as the stress falls on the part of the idiom labelled sth; in this situation, the stress is usually omitted as its position will depend upon which words take the place of sth.假如习语中的重音模式不止一个或者其重音取决于上下文,那么就不会标注任何重音。例如,be light on sth 没有标注重音符号,这是因为其重音落在 sth 上;在这种情况下,因为重音的位置取决于取代 sth 的词,因而它通常被省略掉。Sometimes you may see an idiom with two primary stress marks. For example, in he who ˈhesitates (is ˈlost) both the words hesitate and lost are given a primary stress mark. The second primary stress mark appears in a part of the idiom that is sometimes omitted and is therefore given in brackets. If the words in brackets are not spoken, then the other word with a primary stress mark, e.g. hesitates, takes the primary stress. If the words in brackets are spoken, then the primary stress falls on the word marked within the bracketed phrase.有时也有习语标有两个主重音。例如,在习语 he who ˈhesitates (is ˈlost) 中,hesitatelost 两个词都标有主重音符。第二个主重音符标在习语中可省略、并因而用括号表示的部分。假如括号中的词不用读出,那么另一个词,例如 hesitates,就要按主重音读出。假如括号中的词需要读出,那么主重音就应落在括号内短语中标有主重音的词上。
